On dating in 2023

When I first got out into the dating world I expected men to care a lot more about my substance and they actually did. What they ended up caring about more was how I made them feel and how I carried myself, how I looked, how attracted they were to me. So a man is going to first value how he sees you; so are you dressing well, you take care of yourself, are you classy, you know yourself and how you make him feel. The rest of the stuff: the amazing qualities that you have in time will be appreciated and I think some men of a certain caliber will appreciate those things more than others but for the most part man is attracted to you and you make me feel good about himself that's the criteria.

That means that all their emotions toward you are technically self-centered, since they only are loving you in order for them to feel loved. Feels dehumanizing. They expect to be loved for who they are and we just get to be loved for how we make their life better.

Situationship (or Delusionship)
Why do these exist? Why am I heart broken by someone who wanted me first???? Who approved this bs

1) DO NOT PUT HIM ON A PEDESTAL (no matter how perfect and nice he is). So he carries your bag, holds your hand, asks questions about you life or even flat out tell you he likes you. That is bare minimum. Sometimes having no male attention growing up means that now you get attached to any guy that shows you affection.

2) If you talk everyday and night; you will get attached to them. This will make the heartbreak 10x more harder. At some point you don't even miss them just the attention they showed you. So don't get attached to someone you are not officially dating. I think what's hardest for a woman isn't losing the guy, it's forgiving herself for falling in love with his potential knowing damn well she saw his warning signs and inconsistencies.

3) You need to have the audacity OK because if anyone should have the audacity it's you if anyone should have the entitlement it's you. You are the giver of life, you are the multiplier you are the one going into relationships with inherent value and worth and you need to start acting like it and I swear to you being audacious will repel the low bare minimum, low effort men you don't want.

4) If they cut it off with you, let them go! Disrespect is all the closure you need, sweetheart. It's hard to do because maybe you see potential, or think about of what could have been but it's time to BFFR. Don't reach out to them and don't respond to them if they reach out. Growth is realizing you only want someone to reach out to you for your ego and not because you actually miss them. Remember: he will always be a lesson but you will forever be his loss.

How to get over him (an unserious guide)
imagine him chasing a ping pong ball
walking down a hill
unsuccessfully merging on the highway... embarrassing

And now a serious guide

Take only a few days to mourn what could have been. Don't harbour too long and put yourself in depression.

Leave the memories alone. Don't think about them because then the brain will store the memory as a longterm memory and you want that scrubbed out. Snap a hair tie everytime you think about him.

Distract yourself. Read a book, listen to empowering music, talk to family, learn a hobby. Your life does not revolve around him so act like it.

Pour all that love you had into yourself. Go see a movie, a restaurant, a hot girl walk. Buy yourself something nice. Have a green juice, learn yoga or pilates. As Lorde once sang " I care for myself the way I used to care about you"

To conclude... trust the timing of you own life because whenever YOU wake up is morning for you.

Now that June is winding down, I'm in my Komolika era. June is for summer love (Hello? Heat Waves by Glass Animals) but July and August is Hot Girl Summer (or Monsoon Girl Summer)

1 // FIFA World Cup  ⚽
The best part of getting home from work for the past few weeks was eating lunch and yelling at professional football players as they kick a ball for over 90 minutes. But seriously I'm thoroughly impressed with the skills and perseverance shown by so many players. ps. peep the video below that resulted from the Germany-Korea game. 🤣🤣

If you are into fashion chances are you probably know about fashion icon Andre Leon Talley. He is the former editor for American Vogue and is highly influential in the fashion industry. I was first introduced to him in an interview with Tom Power on q. and was really drawn into what he was saying about the code of dressing well and about his life experience. Take a Listen

new year, new you

The end of the calendar year is a natural time to pause, reflect and assess what needs to be changed in our lives. The annual list may go something like: lose a few pounds, earn a few more dollars and overall be a better person. The pattern is so predictable that you can find at least five other persons within a 5mile radius with the same list. When it comes to becoming a university student there is a whole slew of things we want to improve on in the coming year. We may want to make more time for reading the weekly readings before class. We want to implement more organization into our work and part-time job schedule. Perhaps, we want to attend more seminars, workshops and event around campus.

The problem is that New Year’s resolutions usually loses its value and importance as the weeks go along. I truly believe that the only way to make resolutions achievable is to make them more attainable. Make it feasible.
  1. Be more patient and understanding with fellow classmates in the library working on a group project; instead buy some noise cancelling headphones.
  2. Take healthy lunches from home; Have pizza and onion rings delivered to lecture hall
  3. Complete readings and assignments before watching TV; only binge watch one season of Friends on Netflix.
  4. Spend more time with friends; tag them in a #tbt Instagram post with a heartfelt message about missing the old days.
  5. Keep room/ dorm clean; refuse to allow any takeout containers into your room.
  6. Attend office hours and have a thoughtful conversation with your professor; learn how to make ice-cream on YouTube
  7. Spend time developing skills and passions; sleep.

By taking this approach, you’ll be meeting your goals in no time and will no longer be a repeat failure. Overall, just accept the chaos and anxiety that school life brings. After all, 2017 can’t be as bad as 2016 was, am I right?

when life gives you lemons

It' s getting super cold, really fast in Toronto. I have started to drink this lemon/ginger goodness to keep me strong this winter. I find myself not reaching for the cough syrup or soothing lozenge for my throat on days when I drink this.

You will need:
The juice of 1/2 lemon
Half a ginger,  sliced
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1 cup hot water
 Let’s begin:

In a mug, combine the lemon juice, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric and honey. Fill up the mug with hot water and let steep for 2-3 minutes. Enjoy!

who is twenty?

So I turned twenty today! Huzzah! I remember being sad at the age of 10 because it was two digits long. haha! Everyone told me that being an adult was all about being responsible, making good decisions, and writing emails. Well I am here to tell you that they lied. Except for the last part, the email writing struggle is real. As it turns out being and adult means you can eat cotton candy for breakfast, binge watch your favourite TV shows, and buy as many fruit smoothies and shoes as my credit limit allows. So take that responsibility.

Design your tech

Hello everyone!

Today I'm letting you in on a little secret! I figured I might as well share this because I'm so in love with every single background download this blogger has featured. I was on Pinterest trying to find a cute background for my desktop, when I stumbled upon DesignLoveFest. She features so many designs that are SOOOO cute and she has tons of free downloads on her site, especially under the section "Dress Your Tech!". Her site is my go-to to jazz up all my devices, and I wanted to spread the love.

DesignLoveFest.com has both iPhone and Desktop backgrounds, she posts quite regularly so I'm always checking back and saving them.  I even think a few would look amazing as prints, if you go to staples and print them on nice paper and frame them, they'd be a great addition to a gallery wall (I'm totally doing this!).

Hot heads

Ready for a brand new style? It's time for a dramatic cut!

After many years when long hair ruled, a fresh crop of stylized locks is taking over. Which is good news for me, because I can never grow my hair! Lobs (long bobs), short blunt  and pixie cuts are gaining popularity, especially among celebrities. It seems that short hair is edgier, easier to maintain and can be worn dishevelled and tousled #wokeuplikethis (flawless!) or prim and proper.

New Year Resolutions

Photo courtesy of Death to stock photos

Okay, so this post is 15 days too late. But there is no rule that says resolutions have to be made on the first day of the year. Trust me, I checked! But in all seriousness I really do believe that every once in a while we should take time to make appropriate changes in life. Like many of you, I too try to set goals and changes to 'be better'. Call it a "Life Detox" if you will. Although I'm not a fan of change and I do embrace routine, I look for opportunities to venture into the 'unknown'. Try as I might to uncover extra hours in the day, there never seems to be enough time to get it all done!

Blog more. I don’t know if I can commit to a post a day, so I’m going to go ahead and say 'multiple' posts a week. On Mondays I update my "Music Monday" playlist, so check frequently. I really enjoy making designs for this blog, so I"ll post more of those as well.

Work out 3 times a week, not including power walks. Normally my I try for five times a week, but since I'm doing a lot more that I was before, I don't want to clutter my schedule too much. Also I join the  gym with a friend so that I'm held accountable for being lazy. But those three times will be actual workouts, not just little walks in the mall (snacking on something unhealthy).

Engage with people on their special occasions like their birthdays. I have to remind myself that other people care about their birthdays and its something that is important to them. I’ve already added them to my calendar for most of my friends and family. If I don't call at least a text, or tweet should suffice.

Well, there you have it – my 2015 resolutions. So, what are your resolutions? Do you have any that are the same or any tips to help me accomplish these?

Here is a lovely "New Years Resolutions Pledge" poster created by The House That Lars Built

Happy New Year!
